Arrest That Bollywood, Officer!

Just saw the movie Talaash. Now before you think to yourself "what is this, 2012?", just know that it was something I had been meaning to see.

Before you proceed, know that there will be a few spoilers below, so if you can't deal, scroll really fast right about.................. NOW!

So I was enjoying the movie - digging the plot, enjoying the mystery and all of a sudden - I just realized I had been watching the Indian sixth sense. The only differences are that they swapped out a small boy for a good looking woman + the woman knew she was dead instead of Bruce's character. STILL, despite this, I enjoyed the movie. But then I started thinking and it hit me...

Sure, Bollywood steals movies. That doesn't bother me.. probably because I have thought about stealing some Hollywood movies and repurposing them for an Indian audience (Sorry). But the thing that is a bit frustrating is that, as I sit here and think, I can't think of any movie premise that's been stolen from Hollywood and done better. Let's run down a quick list shall we:

Memento:Ghajini.
Mrs. Doubtfire:Chachi 420
Blue Streak:Chor Machaaye Shor
ET: Koi Mil Gaya
Hurt Locker (mashed up with 50 first dates): Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Theres literally like 100 more... but I won't get into it.

I will go out on a limb with a declaration of innocence for Sarkar copying the Godfather. That movie was still pretty freaking cool.

And yes.. I agree.. Hollywood is guilty of stealing a bunch of movie concepts from the Japanese and Koreans. Maybe if we tip off the Indian movie industry to stealing from the rest of Asia, we can cut out the LA middle men.
